Crystal Renn by Terry Richardson

I don't know if I have mentioned it before but i'm not the biggest Crystal Renn fan (my favorite plus size model is newcomer Tara Lynn) and this photoshoot doesn't help that. I know a lot of other bloggers and plus size girls admire her but I just..don't. I love models of every shape and size, but we don't have to like models just because they're plus sized. Sidenote: Is Crystal even considered a plus sized model anymore? She walked the Zac Posen Spring 2011 Show on September 11th and looked tiny to me!

This shoot grabbed my attention but not in a good way. My first thoughts were "w.t.f" which was then followed by a couple of minutes of staring at my screen with my mouth open. I don't think this is her best work and i'm really disappointed that she agreed to work with Terry Richardson, the most overrated photographer in recent years - who also happens to be a sexist pervert. I think any woman with self respect would (and should!) stay away from him. Terry sticks to his usual theme of a model posing provocatively against a white wall, very exciting.

Yeah, the idea of squid sliding down someones throat is incredibly sexy, way to go Terry. I don't know what the exact message behind this is. A plus sized woman loves her food, women are pieces of meat (in Terry's eyes), Crystal trying to prove she doesn't have an eating disorder..who knows. She is styled beautifully which is the only positive thing I have to say!

  5. I think the way people view "plus size" is epitified in these pictures. How embarrassing. I happen to think she is gorgeous. Not a matter of plus or not plus. She def looks better with meat on her bones.. but these pictures are basically a slap in the face. im disappointed she agreed to it. =/

  6. As a vegetarian don't you think objectifying animals like that (as food and lumps of meat) is pretty disgusting? I don't like her anyway but anyone misusing living creatures as objects just makes me dislike her more (same with Gaga) xxx

  7. Ick, I feel a little sick looking at the squid photo. I hate the photography, it's so bland and he's managed to make someone as amazing looking as Crystal Renn look dowdy.

  14. i couldn't agree more...what is the point? she's "plus sized" (a stretch) so let's feature her gorging herself and posing seductively with food? really don't like it. i dont really like the styling much, either! disappointing indeed.

  17. Nothing about this photoshoot is appealing at all. It's not artistic & I wouldn't even say controversial.. just disgusting.
    And she definitely doesn't look plus sized!
    On the other hand, I like her jewellery! haha.

  21. Yeah, when I first saw these photo's, I didn't like them. I don't like every editorial I see though, so I shrugged it off. You can't please everyone, I just don't understand what is supposed to be appealing about the theme. The clothes are nice, but that's about it! I didn't know they were Terry Richardson's work, but after it being pointed out, I can see it. Buh! I don't like him & I think he's a totally overrated photographer.

  25. Hmm...this photoshoot is really not attractive in my mind. Although there appears to be some sort of attempt to raise eyebrows and cause discussion/debate. (Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.)
    But if it's supposed to be a shoot about the clothing I think the photographer has lost there...as has the model. I can think of a million more flattering and eye-catching ways to show off those lovely knits and it doesn't involve gluttonous images mixed with blatant sexualised indulgence.

  32. I don't know you but I am on the same page with you completely! The styling here is beautiful, but yeAH, not a big fan of TR's work. I won't even go into his personal life/acts, his work is not my cup of tea.

    And big girl gets set up with a food binge editorial? Now, not a big fan of the size 10 "plus" size model, Crystal "what were you thinking" Renn.

  50. To be honest she looks as though she's just wearing clothes that are plus size, she doesn't look like a plus size model to me. She's not unattractive but these pictures are very unflattering (I think that's the word I want). On a side note, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't eat any of this.

  61. Terrys awesome! i guess hes a marmite kinda man, i have lots of his books and don't generally think hes a pervert the women that do those kind of things are 'those' kinda of women.. he's different to everyone else, he likes to be controversial, so even all this hype makes him win x
