Most days when I look into my closet I feel like a little girl who never grew up. Everything inside (with the exception of "clubbing" dresses) is something I would have worn when I was a child. Back then I had a closet full of pretty dresses, if it was girly - I had it. Floral prints, lace, polka dots, ruffles, and peter pan collars were my favorites. So of course the peter pan collar is my top trend this season.
Unless you have been living under a rock this season, you will know what I'm talking about! That cute, round edge, flat collar (pictured above) that has been all over the highstreet in recent weeks and featured in many designer collections for SS11. The peter pan collar is everything I look for in fashion: feminine, innocent, and all around pretty!
The downside is that it hasn't made a huge appearance in plus sized fashiom quite yet. Stores such as Topshop, H&M, and New Look have had multiple pieces with the peter pan collar but its absent from most plus sized stores that I checked (Evans, Faith 21+, Style369 and Torrid) I can wear Topshop's largest size (UK 16) so I won't have to miss out completely, but I do hope more plus sized retailers embrace this trend. At the end of my search I found this ASOS CURVE Embellished Peter Pan Collar Shift Dress which comes in sizes UK 20-26. Embellished peter pan collar? Yes please! I am already thinking of ways I would wear this! Over the knee black socks and a side braid come to mind.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone will make a nude colored dress with a lace peter pan collar and ruffled hem, that is my idea of perfect!
What do you girls think of the "peter pan" collars? Love them or hate them?
xoxo

Favorite winter 2010 trend: Peter Pan collars

Asos have quite a few peter pan collars, I remember having a twitter convo about them! In both plus size and straight sizes :) xxx
ReplyDeleteWOOO! My favourite :)
ReplyDeleteI wanted the first top in the seconds colour..but now the mustard is growing on me!
The third didn't suit me sadly and the 4th..I just love love love in all the colours haha
Have you seen the dress - http://tinyurl.com/35uhku2
ahh..looove it :)
x
I am definitely a fan! They instantly add a cute, retro touch to any outfit...I really want a short-sleeved shirt in this style and I'm definitely going to check out a Tesco dress I saw on Milkteef. Hoping to make a detachable collar too!
ReplyDeleteloveee the second top <3
ReplyDeletei love peter pan collars too, i think everyone does!
i am so desperate for one I'm scouring cahrity shops and topshop to see if they do one which is in an oversized style (the shirt itself not the collar) and if all else fails I'm learning to make one at the moment :)
ReplyDeletethese are all so bloody adorable mind! xxx

I love the burnt orange colored tunic above. I haven't seen any of these colors even in regular sized stores. I hope it will appear in stock soon.

I love them too - so cute!
ReplyDeleteI have a dress with a peter pan collar that I am adding sequins too that I have to finish taking forever, I think they are so girly and classic. It's a nice change for women to feel girly without having to show off the boobs (I don't have much)
ReplyDeleteTesco have a great dress at the moment that looks just like the Topshop one ;)
Oh I adore peter pan collars, they're so sweet and little-girl-esque but classic looking enough to wear when you're not 5 too! I have the fourth tunic along, and can't stop wearing it! I've just imagined that 'nude dress with lace collar and ruffled hem' in my head, and it looks like utter perfection! xx
ReplyDeletegah, i love them so much. my boyfriend is sick of me talking about finding something, anything, here in asia with a peter pan collar. lol
ReplyDeleteScrapbook de la Emma
I LOVE Peter Pan collars. Love love love.
ReplyDeleteeeek peter pan collars are so cute. i need some more in my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteyou're pretty! (in your outfit posts)
x
yeah they are so adorable~ totally love them!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of obsessed with Peter Pan collars at the moment. But I'm still looking for the perfect vintage blouse with a Peter Pan collar x
ReplyDeleteI absolutely ADORE peter pan collars on dresses. I have no opinion on tops because I never wear them (but some of these would look cute under dresses.... hmmm....) I wish there were more cheap-ish peter pan options that are a bit more, um, shaped though. I'm a big fan of pulled in waists/1950s silhouette so I'd like to see more collars on those kind of dresses ^_^ xx
ReplyDeleteI love it and totally allow it to embrace me but the reason why I have as few peter pan collars as now (i have 2 pieces) is because major retailers don't do cute peter pan tops for the big girls yet. I saw the ASOS embellished collar piece but i didn't love it because it has no sleeves! I don't really like anything without sleeves so i am still sitting and praying that i can find some in the near future that are as cute as the ones in ASOS main range.
ReplyDeleteHear ASOS hear!
Peter Pan collars are my new life. Seriously. I keep trying to save up for some, and then, being so idiotic as i am, i spend the money on something realy stupid, like a toaster that toasts the bread with a smiley face on them. I love you picks from Topshop. Wishing the mustard yellow shirt was with me now... Yum. Following you! Panda xo
ReplyDeletei love them, and the asos curve dress you linked too. but i want to like, ease myself in, buy a nice cheap dress first to see if it looks good more than just in a changing room and then build up because i rarely wear quite high necked stuff and if i do i'm quite picky.
ReplyDeletealso, just as a sort of side note, Tesco have some plus sized peter pan collar pieces. my local store is an Extra so we have them there but they will be on the website.x
i absolutely LOVE peter pan collars. i got my peter pan collar dress in my latest post and was impressed by the quality - so i think you should go for the curve one you found! xxxx
ReplyDeleteI've also noticed a peter pan collars craze lately. Was actually thinking of trying them but I think, in the end, it isn't really my thing. But who knows, maybe things will change :))
ReplyDeleteIts still quite depressing that fashion brands don't recognise that plus sizes girls want to were the latest trends too! Re the pan collars I know a blogger My Favourite Fashion was customising some of her clothes with collars bought from a haberdashery, maybe its worth re-inventing some of your wardrobe?
ReplyDeleteLOVE them! I think they are adorable! Generally when I dress, I do like lower cut items, I'm small around the bust so I try to emphisise what I do have, but I give that up when it comes to Peter Pan collars!
ReplyDeleteAren't they wonderful, I love them. Bit scared they'll get too oversaturated on the high street though. x
ReplyDeletesoooo beautiful, love it :))))
ReplyDeleteLOVE

I really really love them and own a far few dresses/shirts with them on anyway- but these new season styles are more difficult for me to wear- if I can unbutton the collars it's fine, but I've got quite a fair bust on me and these joined up ones can make me look really lumpy. So I have to be quite choosy.
ReplyDeleteI say yes for +size tips & dresses! I love to wear oversized stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe PeterPan collars are beatiful ^^
LOVE!
ReplyDeletetotally love! <3 :D
ReplyDeleteI'm obviously not a girl, but the Peter Pan collar is exceptionally cute. It has that touch of childish cuteness for more grown up girls. The ones in the picture are all lovely. The pink blouse and the rust orange dress are my favorites among those four.

I'm a sucker for them every time! Cant get enough xx
ReplyDeleteOh I love these! I also like the peter pan collar as well, its very girly and cute! Thanks for your comment btw! :)
