October 18, 2010

Dress: Dunnes *** Coat: Miss Selfridge *** Boots: Doc Marten *** Socks: ASOS *** Necklace: Forever 21 *** Belt: Faith 21

How pretty are these white socks from ASOS?! I bought them about 2 years ago but today was my first time to wear them because I actually forgot that I had them! I love the ruffles at the top. When I was a little girl I wore socks exactly this to school every day! You would think that I would hate them now (considering I wore similar ones for 5+ years) But nope! They are one of those things that I have loved since childhood, polka dot prints and docs, too. I think today's outfit was mostly a mashup of my childhood!

A few people have left comments asking if I started my new job at Forever 21 yet, what its like, etc. No, I haven't started working for them yet! My training day is next Wednesday so I assume (and hope!) that i'll be starting work pretty soon after that. I am one of the few people they have hired as full time staff, apparently there is only 4 of us full timers in the whole store - out of 250 staff, crazy!

Speaking of Forever 21, what do you all think about the recent announcement that they will soon change the name of the Faith 21 collection to Forever 21+/plus? A couple of weeks ago I was reading about the collections our store will carry, the page with "Forever 21+" stood out to me, I was sure they had made a mistake/actually meant Faith 21, but it makes sense now.
To be honest I preferred the name Faith 21. It was nice to have a collection dedicated to us larger girls with no weight related words attached. It's not really "Forever 21 plus" because most of the clothes in the Faith 21 collection is not sold in smaller sizes for the regular Forever21 line. I am really really hoping that since they changed the name to Forever21+ that they will now make larger sizes of their regular sized lines. Don't get me wrong, when Faith 21 gets it right, they really get it right, but I see a lot of pieces that make me cringe too. Every week I see 2-3 new pieces I want from Faith 21 but at least 20 that I want from the regular sized Forever 21 line, so I think that says it all! It sure has grown a lot and improved since it first launched last year so I hope the new name is a sign of even more good things to come.

ps. I am sorry the winner of my giveaway still hasn't been announced - I'm short on money and can't afford to mail it until this weekend so I will announce the winner closer to the time. Sorry again!

xoxo

Get to know me!

October 10, 2010

Two lovely bloggers (Guida and Yolanda) passed on the "happy award" and "versatile blogger" blog awards to me recently. I try not to get too personal on my blog because it is a blog about fashion but at the same time I don't want to feel like a stranger to my readers. So I am really excited to answer these blog awards which I think will help everyone get to know me and my interests (well, other than fashion and photography) a little better. I'm cheating a teeny-tiny bit! Instead of picking out a couple of other bloggers to pass these awards on to, i'm tagging every one of my readers! If you decide to post on your blog be sure to leave a comment with the link, i'll love reading everyone elses answers too!

The happy 101 award
♥ List 10 things that make you happy (i'm not going to include fashion, photography, dresses, blogs and pastel colors since those are very obvious!)

1. Colorful flowers
Whenever i'm feeling down (or just want to lift my mood) a splash of bright color always helps. The pink lily flower is my favorite.
2. Urban Exploration / Abandoned Buildings
This is probably not the most common hobby among 20 year old girls (and i'm sure many people consider it a lil' weird!) but there is something incredibly charming about old decaying buildings which are full of history. Of course certain buildings (such as hospitals) have an element of sadness to them but they still had happy times too. My favorites are hotels and amusement parks!
3. Things that remind me of my childhood
I had a great childhood and really loved growing up in the 90s. I probably didn't appreciate it as much as I should have back then, but now and then i'll find something that takes me back to being a little girl. Just last week I downloaded every episode of Pepper Ann for my iPod, next up is KaBlam!
4. Snow!
For the last couple of winters we have been lucky enough to get lots of snow where I live. I think it makes winter/Christmas feel really special and it looks so pretty. Plus I love stomping through it and hearing it crunch under my feet!
5. Being kissed on my forehead
Forehead kisses..oh gosh. Aren't they just the best kind?! Regardless of how bad my day is, a forehead kiss will always put a smile back on my face!
6. Clouds (and the sky in general!)
I love laying on the grass and staring at the clouds. I don't really know *why* I think they are so fascinating but they make me happy! Every time I see a pretty cloud I just have to take a picture of it.
7. Perfume / Pretty perfume bottles
I'm a sucker for perfume! If it comes in a pretty bottle then thats even better. My favorite perfume for evening wear is the original Juicy Couture perfume or Addict by Dior. My favorite for day time is plain ol' vanilla.
8. Concerts
More specifically, outdoor concerts! I have been to a lot of concerts as a fan and also as a photographer, I have to say that nothing beats the amazing atmosphere at an outdoor concert! They are my favorite thing about summer. Hanging out on the grass in Marley Park with a group of friends and an awesome band playing on stage always makes me happy.
9. Oversized hoodies
Throwing on an old oversized hoodie always makes me feel secure! I tend to buy 'em a size or two bigger now because those are extra comfy. Not the most fashionable piece of clothing in my closet but definitely makes me smile!
10. Snail mail
As much as I love technology I hate that things like real handwritten letters and film photography is dying out. I love writing and receiving handwritten letters, knowing someone has taken the time to write me a letter puts the biggest smile on my face! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate emails too, but there's something a little bit extra special about snail mail.

The versatile blogger award
♥ Share 7 things about yourself

1. I absolutely hate short term relationships/hooking up! I would rather stay single than have a quick fling. I have felt this way since I started dating boys!
2. I was (more than likely) a twin but my mother miscarried the other baby. I say more than likely because there was no solid proof that my mom was carrying twins however she lost a lot of blood and the doctors said it was more than likely a twin but it was too late to test!
3. I have always had more male friends than female! When I was a kid I was still a girly-girl but preferred to hang out with boys. I do like being friends with girls but I mesh better with a group of guys!
4. I am terrified of drowning alive but I love being near the ocean and listening to the waves. (I'm also afraid of birds!)
5. I was really ill when I was 14/15 and had over 30 shots (injections) over a period of two weeks but I still cringe when I see them!
6. When I was 15 I had a mullet! My hair stylist made a huge mistake and it resulted in a mullet, it was horrible. Luckily my mom brought me to get extensions the very next day.
7. I was a little bit of an entrepreneur. When I was 15 I was earning $1000+ a month (sometimes $2000) this lasted for a few years until I lost interest in the internet and put my energy into things I enjoyed instead (I still don't regret it)

OOTD: Backstage NYC.

October 7, 2010

Hey everyone!
I haven't blogged in a while because I haven't been feeling too great. Mostly a combination of low energy, stress and probably SAD kicking in! I haven't been wearing many cute outfits so you guys haven't missed anything!
This post is going to be a big all-in-one so i'll begin with my outfit from today. Warning: I wore leggings as pants! However I made sure they covered my ladyparts!

Top: Topshop *** Leggings: Faith 21 *** Shoes: Primark *** Bracelet: Primark *** Ring: Miss Selfridge (I think!)

I am not really liking these leggings. I think leggings in general are unflattering (on me) because they make my legs look even stumpier than usual but these "wet look" style leggings bring stumpy to a whole new level! Oh well.. tried, tested and now I know to avoid them in the future! I wore them with a Topshop tshirt and some new heels from Primark. I am in love with these shoes, I am already planning future outfits in my head to wear with them!

On a non-fashion related note, I had some blood tests done at the doctors office a couple of weeks ago. Everything came back fine (my cholesterol is much lower than the average, no diabetes, liver & kidneys functioning normal - huzzah!) except my vitamin b12 levels. My doctor told me I had b12 deficiency so I had to get more blood tests the following week to check if I would need b12 shots for 6 months or for life. After the test results came back the doctor said she would just give me vitamin b12 pills instead, even though she said the week before that pills wouldn't work! Yesterday I stopped by to pick up the prescription for my pills and I googled the name when I got home..she gave me vitamin b6 not b12! Gah.
I'm really stressed out over this because I am constantly tired and my hair has gotten really *really* thin over the last few months (I have been losing more than usual too) The hair problem actually bothers me more than having no energy. I have had thin hair all of my life but it was never this bad, if you look at my outfit pictures you can see the ends of my hair look ridiculous - no matter how much I trim off the ends it still looks like this because my hair is just so thin!

beauty event

beauty event
On Sunday my mom and I ventured off to the city to attend a beauty trade event. It's a big fair with lots of beauty products and anyone who works in the beauty industry (student, make up artist, business owner, etc) can buy products at special rates. I honestly only went for St Tropez tan and OPI nail colors.. and neither of those brands even showed up! My favorite part of the day was probably the rainbow on the car ride home! Sad but true.

After reading back over this post, I feel like negative Nancy! Hope y'all are having a good week! I will be announcing the winner of my giveaway in a few days.
