♥ Dress: Dunnes *** Cardigan: Topshop *** Bracelet: Primark *** Socks: Topshop *** Flats: Dunnes ♥
Title cheekily borrowed from the lovely Sufjan Stevens/his song "The Dress Looks Nice on You". I love his music and i'm listening to that song as I write this entry, so it seemed like a fitting title.. especially considering i'm wearing a pretty dress n' all!
The dress i'm wearing today is from Dunnes, I just about squeezed into the size 18! I have quite broad shoulders so anything with a zip can be tricky. They extended their sizes to UK 20 shortly after Primark did the same, which is great news for bigger gals like myself! Although, all of the bigger sizes (16,18,20) tend to get snapped up really quick so its best to pay a visit on days when they first put new stock on the rails. I feel a little bit guilty posting Dunnes items on here so often when only Irish/UK readers can buy their clothes, but there are lots of similar items available online (ASOS, Dorothy Perkins, Forever 21) Plus its one of two clothing stores we have here that cater to women under fifty!
I forgot to mention something in my "blogging 101" post which has been bothering me. Its mostly directed at fashion bloggers and again, all of this is my opinion only - you don't have to be rich to have a fashion blog! I know some girls prefer to invest 100s of euros on a basic tshirt, but i'm fine with spending €4 on one in Primark because its within my budget and its just a t-shirt. Such things might be important, even considered investments to some people but for me..well, i'm fine with my cheap-o top. Most of my clothing is from lower end stores like Primark and I would consider Topshop high end (for my budget).
Its also okay to wear items from past seasons. A lot of people think you must be in all of the ~latest styles~ to be seen as fashionable/stylish/a true "fashionista" but its more about how you style the item than how long it has been in stores for. I still have many pieces of clothing from 2-3 years ago, infact I can't wait for warmer days so I can wear my oversized floral print topshop tee (which I believe I purchased in 2007 or 2008) Most of my shoes are old too, I have quite a few pairs so I don't wear the same ones every single day, however my shoes from both this entry and the last were purchased a year ago.
And lastly don't feel intimidated because your favorite bloggers can afford new a new designer dress every time they update - most of those bloggers are doing this as a career and sent those items in return for a little publicity. And the ones who buy the clothes with their own money..well, yeah, they're lucky..but you can make a Target or Primark dress look just as lovely!
A lot of people have asked me for a "photo tips" post, similar to my blogging 101 post but with photograph help. I'm more than happy to do this so keep watching in the near future. I am already planning it in my head! I'll probably split the post in two with tips for people who use DSLR's and people who use compact digital cameras.
xoxo

oh you look adorable! that dress looks so pretty on you, i can't resist anything with a polka dot! x
ReplyDeleteLove your dress, just yesterday a friend came to school with a similar polka dot dress only hers was black and white, after seeing your post I want one even more, and your flats are adorable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I personaly don't buy anything high end unless it's second hand, and since Primark came to Portugal two years ago I've become a loyal and happy costumer, there's something really satisfying about buying clothes in bulk.
I consider topshop high end too... unless it's £3 from the outlet ;)
ReplyDeletetrue that about not having to be rich to have a fashion blog. cheap is the way to go for me hehe:) gorgeous outfit! xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute dress :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the photo tips very much, your photos are always so lush!
x
Love this outfit, polka dots are always a winner in my eyes :) And I so agree with you about not needing to break the bank to look good, a white tshirt from primark can look just as good as a designer one to me! xx
ReplyDeleteYou seriously don't look any bigger than a size 12! You dress so well for your figure. You're a babe! xo
ReplyDeleteWell said, people can't afford to buy just to blog about them and you can create nice outfits on any budget especially on the high street. I store my winter and summer clothes away so when the seasons change, I open the box and its like I've got a new wardrobe. My favourite summer jacket is over four years old. xx
ReplyDeleteWow, that dress is amazing on you.
ReplyDeleteSO your color

I love everything about what you're wearing! The dress is so vibrant and that bracelet is gorgeous.
ReplyDeletesuch a gorgeous dress, the colour is so pretty and i love polka dots.
ReplyDeleteAw I love your dress Dee! Polka dots are my weakness at the moment for some reason (: Love the little footnote to your Blogging 101, I'm always rewearing items from as far back as 3 or 4 seasons ago, my blog and style is more about reworking favourite items than constantly showing what I've bought (or haven't, as the case currently is! :p) Looking forward to your photo post! xx
ReplyDeletei love that dress! :) you look great!
ReplyDeletelove the little socks!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that Primark decided to go up to size 20, their clothes are so small that even a size 16-18 girl might need to get a 20 in there x
Great outfit, I really love the bracelet too!
ReplyDeletelooks cute on you
ReplyDeleteI'm a mega Primark girl... Topshop is high end to me too!
ReplyDeleteAs for seasons, I think that's such a load of old tosh. I think there's a MASSIVE difference between fashion and style. Fashion fades away instantly with the seasons, whereas style lasts forever, you either have it or your don't - it can't be bought from a "new collection out this season". And I know which one I'd rather have!
I like your tips posts though, I think it'd be great to do some more like this!

Lovely dress :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, I agree with you again, I don't think that anyone needs to spend 100€ in a t-shirt to be trendy/fashionable/whatever !
You can find amazing clothes in cheaper stores!
I have lots of items from Primark, for example :)
xoxo<3
Looking as lovely as ever!
ReplyDeleteCant wait for your photography tips!...
Thank You!
To true re: your Blogging 101 side-note, Dont get me wrong I love a good shopping trip / haul, but I'm always rewearing items! I love tea dresses...cant get enough of them...so they look all the same, but its how your restyle them making different outfits!
Looking forward to your photo post!

You look adorable in this dress, I really really like your outfit so cute. You're so right about getting a Penneys tshirt or dressing up something cheap to look amazing. People get caught up in the latest "it" items and trends often forgeting about true style! x
ReplyDeleteI love your dress, it's adorable! I'd love to see a photo tips post, even though I have a not so great camera...lol! :)

You look precious (:
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing that not all bloggers are rich. How boring would that make blogging material? I enjoy the vintage, non-expensive, unique trends. you can only have so much designer.
