Crest whitening strips review

June 7, 2011

Hey loves, I wanted to do an outfit post today but it seems I caught a bug and haven't been feeling too well. I ended up spending the day in my "lazy" clothes aka. leggings! I wear leggings a lot especially during the winter but never post outfits with them because I don't actually like how they look. Its definitely a comfort thing for me. I took some pictures recently because I wanted to post a little review on Crest whitening strips. I mentioned I had been using them on twitter and lots of ladies on there asked me to do a review so why not!
I always check for reviews online before buying certain products and teeth whitening products are especially tricky as lots don't work - well, they haven't for me personally. I have tried pearl drops and a lot of "whitening" toothpastes/other products, none of which worked. The Crest strips definitely made a noticeable difference though.

I don't have before pictures which i'm sorry about, like the 30 day shred I didn't take good before pictures because I didn't expect such a big change. Before using the strips my teeth were slightly discolored, they weren't especially bad but they were closer to a shade of yellow than a bright white. One of my teeth in particular (I believe its called the "canine") on the upper left side was much more discolored than the others for some reason. As someone who likes to smile a lot, I was really self conscious about it and decided to try out the Crest strips as the reviews online seemed mostly positive.

I chose the "Crest 3d whitening strips with advanced seal, professional effects" as they had the best reviews. They are a little more expensive than the other strips (there is so many different strips to choose from, it really confused me!) but they are worth every cent. The professional effects strips are the strongest tooth whitening products available without going to the dentist.
The strips aren't available in stores here in Europe so I ordered my strips through Amazon.com and had them shipped to my address in the USA because they don't ship them internationally. If you live outside the USA you can probably get them on eBay, i'm not too sure though. Inside the box was 20 little packets, each contained one strip for your upper teeth and a shorter strip for your lower teeth. There was also an instruction booklet which came with lots of coupons for future Crest purchases, one of the coupons was $7 off a box of the strips!

The instructions were very easy to understand and I had no trouble applying them. You peel the strip from the clear plastic, press the gel side against your teeth and tuck the extra part under your teeth. Crest say you can use the strips twice a day if you want, but I only used them once a day because I have sensitive teeth. Around day 4 I began to notice a big difference, especially on that one tooth that was extra discolored. On day 10 I began to notice sensitivity but kept using the strips for a few more days which I regretted. Clearly printed on the instructions is a note about how tooth sensitivity is common and you should take a break of 2-3 days if you experience it, I should have listened! After a couple of days of tooth pain I decided to take a break for a week before finishing the pack, when I did resume using the strips I only did so every second day.

The end result was much so better than I expected. I knew they would make a difference but I didn't think it would be as great as it is. My teeth are all the same color for the most part and I am no longer wondering if people are staring at my oddball-tooth with I smile! I love that my teeth are a nice natural shade of white, rather than the OTT fake white "Hollywood smile". I have already ordered a second box to use when I notice my teeth beginning to change color again. I really can't recommend these strips highly enough. I paid about $50 (€40-ish) for the box of strips, which isn't cheap but the dentist wanted €250 to whiten my teeth and I got the same result from these strips. I love to save money wherever possible so i'll share one tip that I found out a few days ago - if you are buying the strips from Amazon log in to your account and go to this link which is their coupon page. You may have to refresh a few times but eventually a coupon for either $10 or $7.50 off the whitening strips will show up.

I think this picture describes my overall opinion on the Crest strips:

PS. If any of you gals in the USA plan to buy these strips at the grocery store and would like my coupons, just let me know and I can mail them to you since I can't use them online. (first person to ask can have them!)

xoxo

Note: I wasn't paid or asked to review these strips by any company. I bought the strips myself and this is a completely non-biased review.

  13. I've used this in the past - it's the best! I had the white teeth going for about 2-3 yrs until I started drinking frappes and all that jumbo but it last pretty long considering I've only used a full box twice. I need to go back on them soon...

  14. I too have the troublesome tooth, but do you have to have very straight teeth for the strips to sit right? My canine ones are more rounded than the others.

  20. I bought some crest white strips a few years ago but I never kept up the routine after 1 or 2 days and in the end sold them on. I'm going to give pearl drops a try first, but if not I'll be trying these strips! Your teeth look fantastic, such a lovely natural white colour! I bet your dentist will be impressed! ;) xx

  22. @ Charlene - pearl drops didn't work for me but I hope you have better luck with them!
@ Kia - you can get them on ebay :)
@ Marthamay - I believe they work for people whose teeth aren't straight too, you just need to press them into place and make them fit your teeth, instead of just putting them on straight.
    @ Amber - Canon 7D!
@ Peacocks Hat - I do live in Ireland. I have an address in the USA too which is handy at times like this when companies don't ship to Europe :)

  25. Completely off-topic, but I love your blog (I follow it) and both its aesthetic and body-positive message and just wanted to let you know I decided to add you to my 'Links' page. Feel free to check it out, under 'Links' and then under the subheader, 'Fashion'.

And I also love writing/receiving handwritten letters, by the way. There will be a post on that very soon!

    Cheers,

  26. Wow, your teeth look so good! Too bad I won't be able to bleach my teeth for the following months/years to come.. I'm working at the Coffee Club, aka the European Starbucks, so I have to drink coffee all the time and it'll make my teeth turn yellow eventually.. So basically I won't spend that amount of money on my teeth YET :P

But anyhow, this post is about you, and the effect on you is absolutely fab! + your smile is so pretty, whether it's this white or not :p

    Love,
    Shanah.

  35. Great review, I have used these before and they really do work. I find that my teeth hurt a little afterwards but not for very long. I actually found a really good way to get them cheap as well, there was a $10 off coupon on this crest white strips coupon blog. that was in October, I saw another one for $7 off in December so it's worth checking out.
