An update on...things.

September 29, 2011

:)

I just wanted to do a little update related to things I have posted about in the past. My outfit wasn't stylish enough to do an outfit post today, i'm afraid! I was cleaning out my closet and came across this old pink "A Day To Remember" tshirt. I rarely wear band tshirts anymore but I feel a new obsession coming on! I love the graphic on the front.

HAIR
If you have followed my blog for a while now you will know I was diagnosed with alopecia earlier this year. Rather than losing patches of hair, my hair is thinning out all over (most noticeable along the center of my scalp) and i'm shedding a lot of hair. I unfortunately don't have much to "update" with regarding my hair. I just wanted to mention it because I got so many emails from girls with the same problem after my initial post and it was really touching. My doctor has been useless, to say the least. I don't want to get into all of the details here but I feel like he doesn't actually care about getting to the root of the problem or helping me. He forgot to refer me to the dermatologist initially so I have only been on the waiting list since June. Apparently the waiting list for private patients is three months so fingers crossed that I will hear from them soon. The condition of my hair hasn't changed much and i'm still losing about the same as before. I'm considering getting a haircut in the coming weeks/months. I kept my hair long because it feels like a "safety net" to have it this long while i'm losing hair, but I just think a shorter style would be easier to take care of and may be more flattering too. We'll see!

SHREDDING
Amazing pose, I know! The "30 Day Shred"..well i'm going to be completely honest - i'm a failure this time around! I skipped a couple of days and got thrown off track so i'll probably start again this weekend from the beginning. My problem is that I have to work out before 7am, including my run that means I have to be up at 5.30-6am which is fine but exercise is really the last thing I want to do that early! I might try doing it in the evenings next time, I just worry I will have no energy left. Did any of you girls start it? I hope its working out better for you than it did with me! The results I got last time are still encouraging me to try again. If anyone has any tips for toning upper arms I would appreciate them.

smile
TEETH
I reviewed the Crest whitening strips on here at the beginning of summer and I thought I would update about them as its about 4 months since I used them now. Well my teeth have darkened one or two shades which is somewhat disappointing. I don't smoke, drink tea/coffee and I brush at least 3 times a day. A few people have said my teeth look more natural now which is positive I suppose! I have noticed that since I used the whitening strips, my teeth have become so sensitive. I tried sensitive toothpaste which doesn't help a whole lot either. Most of the time its hard for me to drink water at room temperature! I have to put my tongue over my teeth to drink it. That said, I would still use the strips again given the chance (I have actually stocked up on another box to use next year)

Oh one last thing - I stopped filling in my brows. Yay or nay? I love the defined look of my brows when I fill them in but sometimes I think it looks O.T.T and a bit like i'm wearing a mask! Saves a couple of minutes when i'm doing my make-up in the mornings too.

xoxo

  2. Okay...I'm so addicted to band t-shirts too, especially Paramore (their my fav). If you get a haircut, don't take off too much, maybe you should just get layers to add volume. :)

  3. You manage to look so gorgeous all the time! I love this post, with the different pictures to the different parts of writing!
You seem so confident about alopecia, and this is truly touching! I say whichever you decide, whether to cut it short or leave it long.. will still look really good!x

  5. I think the adtr tee is really cute :) I haven't been following your blog for a long time so I was unaware of your alopecia. I wouldn't have known had you not included it in this post. My mum has alopecia and lost all her hair about four years ago, fortunately it's recently started to grow back!
I started the 30 day shred a couple of weeks ago but like you I had a few days off and just stopped aha! I think I will start again though and blog about it too to keep me motivated. If you do like push ups but against a wall instead of the floor that's meant to be good for toning arms?

  6. I love your band tee!! Can't believe you have alopecia, you would never have guessed as your hair doesn't look thin at all, I think you'd look awesome with a shorter cut, but it looks awesome long too! Your teeth are super white! I need some sort of whitening treatment, but a bit scared of the sensitivity!

  12. You look so lovely, bright pink really suits you!

Re Shredding - we´ve talked about it before on twitter but just a wee update from this end...ummm..I´m crap at it this time. I´m back at uni now plus working and go to the gym 3 times a week and my original plan was to shred on the days when I don´t go to the gym. However, most of the days I get home really late and totally knackered and the last thing I want to do is to see Jillian´s face...:D I force myself to do it about twice a week but oh well, better something than nothing!:) x

  15. I think a shorter cut would be just as lovely! I'm thinking of taking a chance and going for a shorter cut too. And no more filled in brows :)

  16. I think you look beautiful :) You have the prettiest eyes!
Our hair is so important to us isn't it?! Your hair is lovely long but I can see you with a "longish" bob. My hair goes very fine when it's past my shoulders and when I have a bob it looks so much thicker :) xx

  17. As someone who has suffered hair loss before [and am thankfully on the rebound! All my little thinning patches are filling back in! Yay! - unfortunately not alopecia though :( ] I cannot stress enough how much better my hair was after I cut it! The additional weight of long hair on my fragile hairs/scalp seemed to really make a difference, especially when wet!
I was told I might have alopecia, but after seeing 4 different doctors and dermatologists, I was told to stop using hair products that have SLS [Sodium Laureth Sulphate, or Sulphide, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, or Sulphide] and see how I went.
At first I was really annoyed because just about all hair products and hair dyes have that in it, but Oh My God the change was so obvious after only a couple of washes.
Even though yours is alopecia, perhaps you could try that and see if it has any affect at all? Couldn't hurt, at least. :)
I'm going to stop waffling on now, I just feel really strongly about hair loss [it was ruining EVERYTHING for me :( ].

  18. Hmm good to know about the whitening strips! I'm tempted but I would to have more sensitive teeth.
Good luck with your hair treatment, I had to wait 9 months to see a dermatologist last year, stupid Ireland!
And I think a short bob would be so cute on you!

  21. I find that wall push ups (arms against the wall, not on the ground) are pretty good for your pecks and arms to tone. Also doing some light weights ( I use 2.5-4.5kgs) in a variety of ways can help tone upper arms. I don't like my upper arms but I have noticed a difference since doing these. :)

Oh and I LOVE ADTR! :) Awesome shirt. :) x

  22. i think your hair looks fine. actually, its beautiful. i hope you can get the treatment you need to keep it that way. c:

ahah, ive been meaning to get up early to go run too, but i dont want to get up at 4am just to run. t___t i know, silly of me, but yea, i just dont want to be sleepy AND burned out for the rest of the day.

i heard that the whitening strip make your teeth super sensitive, so yea, not surprising. it's weird that they made your teeth darker though... why do you need them anyway, your teeth look really white already. xD

  29. I like your brows like this.

I use crest whitestrips and have the same problem sometimes too.

As for the 30 day shred. I bought it about 4 months ago and have yet to do it once. So you're less of a failure at it than I am.

Love your blog and I'm following you!

  30. I'm sorry if this is a stupid thing to suggest - I mean well!

My bf has started losing hair / thinning, he's 31 so I guess it's a little premature but othwerwise normal for a man that age. I bought him a shampoo from Boots called Alpecin which is for thinning hair - it supposed to thicken the hair and encourage re-growth. He's been using it for a few weeks and it seems to be making a difference so I'm now trying him out on the double strength version.

I don't know if it would be suitable for alopecia or not but I wanted to say just in case it could be something that helps you out. I hope you appointment with the dermatologist comes through soon xxx

  33. Hello !

    First of all : You're gorgeous! :)

Then, your doctor S**CKS.. haha. I think that if you cut your hair shorter you'll look like if you have more density. A friend of mine has the same problem than you and since she cut her hair she looks STUNNING ! And as for your brows, I think it looks a lot more natural like that !!

  34. i love that band i saw them live a few years ago! also you are so beautiful so don't you worry about your hair

  35. I am in the same situation as you. My hair started thinning out back in 2008 and in 09 I got told it was alopecia. But no one has been able to help or tell me why its happening, just putting it down to "stress". I spent so much money on a treatment program which didn't help, now I wear extensions because its the only way I can feel like I have enough hair on my head. My GP has only just now suggested I see a dermatologist, which would have been a helpful suggestion 3 years ago. Good luck with your situation, hope you have a little more luck getting to the root of your problem! You still look beautiful! x

  36. Firstly, I love your long hair- but that's possibly because I can't grow mine out like that! It's too thin and often breaks just past my shoulders. The length it is on my blog currently is as long as it goes.

Secondly, the 30 day "shred"? You didn't fail.. failure is an inherently negative word and lays the blame on you and you shouldn't! Do what you can, when you can, and do what you love. Forcing yourself to do something almost guarantees you won't stick with it.

Third, yikes about the teeth whitening strips! I hope you change your mind about using them again! Damaging your teeth for the sake of appearance is just unnecessary. Talk to your dentist about why it's caused such sensitivity (if it's damaging the enamel that that leaves you at risk for cavities and i'm sure teeth whitening isn't worth losing your teeth completely) and maybe they have a method that's safer.

    Also- loving the T shirt

  38. I purchased the 30 day shred dvd... I got about 1/4 of the way through with the first day before my shoulder muscle kinked up, probably from not having done any push ups in, oh, forever, and basically wussed out on the rest! I'm telling myself I'm going to start fresh on monday and that will be that!

  41. Hopped over here from Twitter - you are so stinkin' cute! You can tone your arms with push-ups and pull-ups...not a fun answer I know ;) But it's fast and you don't have to go to a gym. Even if you can't pull-up, just do a little jump and hold yourself up there. Good luck!

  42. I'm so sorry that you have alopecia. It might sound shallow but if I started losing my hair, I'd die! It's nothing to joke about really, hair is a surprisingly big deal to most females - your hair is especially gorgeous. It's a coincidecne really, I'd never heard of alopecia until I watched Deal or No Deal a few days ago and someone on there had it. Is there anything you can do about it? I really hope so :(

PS your blog and your smile is stunning x
