OOTD: In the dark I see

This is "the" Topshop blouse that was seen everywhere around this time last year. I think I have only ever posted one or two outfits with it on my blog, but I wear it quite often. I hardly ever see it on other people (bloggers especially!) anymore but its still one of my favourites. Personally, I think if you love a certain piece of clothing it shouldn't matter how many seasons ago its from, if the trend is still "in", etc. After taking these pictures I realised how noticeable the outline of my bra was and had to slip on a tank top underneath. I don't think its quite as obvious in person (I used flash on my pictures which makes it stand out more) but i'm going to be wearing vest tops underneath it in the future just to be sure!

I just want to say thank you so much for all of the supportive comments on my last post. It really means the world to me. It was a little daunting to write that post and share such a big thing with so many people because sometimes its easier to pretend everything is okay - but I am glad I shared it and knowing it has helped other people is just the most wonderful feeling.

When things get tough

Please don't read ahead if you feel that something in this post may trigger you, it touches upon depression/anxiety/death/mental health.

This is not the usual kind of post you would find on my blog but its something I would consider to be a major issue in my life right now, and I hope sharing this will help someone else get courage to speak to someone if they feel like they need a little bit of "help". Whilst i'm aware not everyone will have the same problems I do (and I know therapy isn't for everyone) - Its okay to ask for help when you feel like you need it. Whether that be in the form of a therapist or a good friend you can trust.

A few months ago I realised one day I will be dead. I know that probably sounds ridiculous to some people, but when your life has (for the most part) been unaffected by death - its quite easy to forget it happens. I started having what can only be described as panic attacks about once every two-three days when I thought about it. I could deal with it but over the past few weeks I began to feel like I had reached "boiling point" - my mind was stuck on this one horrible thought and although I desperately wanted to think of other things, it just wasn't possible. It went from thinking about it once every couple of days to thinking about it for most of the day. Its kind of silly in a way, because here I was crying about dying in the future and that meant I was missing out on right now.

After spending a large part of a Friday evening crying, I went to see an "emergency" doctor who works outside of normal hours. I have to be honest, at the time it was the last place I wanted to go - but did so because I knew my loved ones were worried. From the second I went inside until I departed, I felt like an inconvenience. I thought the doctor was joking when he asked "is this the first time you have tried to harm yourself?" - he obviously hadn't read my file because this was the opposite of what I wanted to do. He asked me a list of questions which were all of the "how to know if you're depressed" signs and symptoms I had googled earlier, it almost felt like it was a game of questions and answers. Even though my answer to all but one question was "no", I was prescribed Xanax and antidepressants before I left and told these weren't addictive. I understand he was probably worried when a 21 year old girl was sitting in his office crying like a baby - but i'm a big girl, we are both adults and he should be honest with his patients (a quick google search tells the horrors of Xanax addiction!)
When I left the doctors office, I was feeling confused and misunderstood. That night I took half of a 0.5mg Xanax and slept for 13 hours, the following day I took half of a 0.25mg Xanax at 3pm and spent most of the evening laying on my bed until I eventually fell asleep at 7pm. I was supposed to be taking the full Xanax pills twice a day along with antidepressants which list being extra tired and weight gain as the main side effects (as an already overweight girl, I don't think I should be taking pills which make people gain as much as 30lbs in 6 weeks!) Taking all of the pills would have meant I would likely want to sleep all day, every day. I did not want to waste my life in bed, nor did I want to take pills I didn't feel like I needed. I don't believe I was/am depressed, anxiety maybe, but I think the doctor diagnosed me as depressed and put me on pills because it was an easy option.

The next week I began to google counselling services and called up a local therapist who scheduled an appointment for the next morning. It was a little daunting at first, I was really afraid of going in there and being judged but I was made feel so comfortable and welcome. Although I still have a long way to go, I know I will get there and I really feel that this is what I need to get on with my life and focus on the positive things again.

I guess the main point of this post was to share "my story" which I hope will help other people. If ever you don't feel comfortable with what your doctor has prescribed/recommended, seek a second opinion. If you think you may need to speak to a therapist but are worried about the stigma attached to it and mental problems in general - don't be! Sometimes we need a little bit of help or guidance and nobody should be afraid/ashamed to seek it. I'm certainly glad I have.

Keep or return?

Sometimes I will see an item in store, fall in love and purchase it. But as soon as I get home and try on the garment, I think "well its not that nice..". I think this mostly happens in Primark, where I very rarely actually fit things on because of the super long queues! The dress in the above pictures was purchased from there shortly after Christmas and still hangs in my closet with tags on. I do love the soft chiffon-like fabric, and although the print is not something I would usually go for, I love the contrast of the red against the winter white. That said, I think the shape does nothing for my figure and I almost feel like I am wearing a nightie! I am not 100% sure if I want to keep it, but then I think about returning it and say to myself "well, maybe i'll wear it someday". This is where your help is needed - keep or return?

I was in Primark a couple of days ago and noticed these dresses actually come with a tie waist belt (in the same print/fabric as the dress), which mine did not. So if I do decide to keep it i'll probably pop back in and mention it to them!

OOTD: Rust

I'm actually cheating a bit because this is the outfit I wore yesterday, not today. I wasn't going to bother posting it because I don't like how I look in them nor do I love the outfit (it was a lazy day outfit) and the sunset cast an orange glow over the pictures, but i'm going away today and probably won't get doing an OOTD until tomorrow or Monday so wanted to post something in the meantime. Gosh, I think that may be the longest sentence I have ever put together!

I'm not a pants girl, at all. I hate wearing them because 1. I don't like how they look and 2. i'm short so its hard to find a pair that don't swamp me! Yesterday was considerably cold though so it seemed like the perfect day to break them out.
I got the trousers i'm wearing in New Look for a measly €4! Right before Christmas the New Look store in my new town had a big sale on, even better than the sale that followed on St. Stephens Day. They had a lot of old stock reduced to €4. There were a lot of rails so I had to do quite a bit of digging but came out with a few new pieces that I probably wouldn't have bought at full price but could justify purchasing at just €4 each! Almost everything left that appealed to me was in a size 16 or 18, so I was very lucky. A lot of items I already own were in the sale too. I am considering not purchasing things from New Look at full price because it seems like everything I buy there ends up in the sale at some point and although my size is usually gone, its still annoying that I paid €35 for something that is now marked down to €10!
A part of me is beginning to miss featuring my shoes in outfit posts, especially because i'm a "shoe gal" and sometimes consider them the best part of an outfit. Do you girls prefer to see outfits with shoes or does it matter?

Blog makeover

Hi everyone. Just a quick post to mention that I have given my blog a little makeover! I have been wanting to change the look of my blog for a while as it has remained mostly the same since I began blogging in May 2010. When I actually sat down to do it, I realised I loved the color scheme more than any other so I decided to keep my logo how it is and do other things to spruce it up a little bit! Theres still a few minor things that I need to fix/work on (mostly the navigation links above), which I hope to get done as soon as possible.
I would love to hear your thoughts on it and if you like this or the old one better!

OOTD: Golden days

I had this entry all ready to go earlier and somehow deleted it - doh! I am still getting used to the new blogger interface. I do like it but I think the old one was easier to navigate, for me at least.

Today I was going for a girlier Wednesday Addams look but ended up looking slightly more like Pippi Longstocking, I always feel so awkward wearing my hair in braids/pigtails! The button up lace blouse was purchased in River Island a little while back, its completely see through so I had to wear a white vest top underneath - I don't think i'm brave enough to show off my undergarments! I decided I had to own it because the lace is almost exactly like lace curtains I had in my bedroom as a child! It didn't photograph too well but theres also metallic gold thread throughout. (I wore a black cardigan too but forgot to put it on for the photographs) Decided not to bother with accessories today as I thought the gold on the top and over-the-knee socks "jazzed" the outfit up enough!

I have misplaced a lot of my necklaces during the move. I *think* aka. hope and pray that they are in storage and I can get them back this week. They aren't too expensive and most were purchased in Primark, Topshop and Forever 21 - but I had built up a nice little collection and it would be such a shame to lose them all!

OOTD: Under the stars

Just a quick outfit post before I go to bed, i'm beginning to fall asleep as I write this, eep! This will be the last outfit post from my old room, which is kind of bittersweet. I disliked the house overall but still had a soft spot for my teeny-tiny room. I am still trying to figure out the best place in my new room to take photographs for my blog - is it weird/pathetic that where I will put my furniture depends on which wall I need to keep free to take photographs? It feels rather silly! In my old room I had to move my furniture every time to take outfit photographs, I promised myself I would leave a little wall space free this time to make it easier.

The dress I wore today is from Primark a couple of months ago, although stores near me still have it in stock. I bought a couple of similar dresses from there about two years ago (in solid colors/animal print) which I loved, so when I spotted this soft pink, star-printed dress I knew I had to have it! Unfortunately at the time they only had small sizes and one size 20, so I decided to buy it even though I usually wear a size 16 in stretchy dresses like this one. Its a little too big, mostly noticeable on the bust where it slowly slides down after a couple of minutes - I still love it though. My local Primark has just marked it down to half price so I think I might pick up one in a smaller size if they haven't all sold out!
The necklace i'm wearing was one of many Christmas gifts from my boy friend (i'm spoiled!) I really love it, its very "me". Its also so small and delicate that I forget i'm wearing it and i'm terrified that i'm going to end up breaking or losing it!

OOTD: Off To The Races

Another outfit full of New Look clothes, they will have to start paying me soon as I am pretty much a walking billboard for their store lately! I have just moved to a town with a massive New Look store, something I didn't think would affect me as much as it has...I literally have to drag myself away every time I walk past it.
Not too sure if I like these heels yet. I wanted a pair very similar from Topshop last year but they sold out before I got a chance to buy them. The shoes are nice to look at but they don't feel safe when i'm walking in them, not because they're high - they seem poorly made, which is a shame. I was going to get them in other colors too, glad I didn't now!
(I wore my black cropped blazer from this post over the dress but didn't include it in the pictures as I prefer how the dress looks without it!)

The title of this post is borrowed from a Lana Del Rey song, i'm not actually off to the races (unfortunately!) I absolutely love her music though. I think Blue Jeans and Kinda Outta Luck are my favourites. Are any of you gals a fan?

Over the last year and a half I have received quite a few emails from girls asking me what blogs I read, if there are any blogs similar to mine, if I have a blogroll posted anywhere, etc. I planned to make a "blogroll" page quite a while back but in the end I didn't as the list of blogs I read is fairly long and I didn't want to annoy people with a list to 100+ various blogs!
For that reason I decided to make this post and include just a few (of the very many!) blogs that I am enjoying right now. When i'm looking for new blogs to follow, I don't strictly look for girls who are a similar size to myself, but rather a well written and presented blog. Good photographs always make a lasting impression, too!

OOTD: Kinda outta luck

I'm usually not a big fan of shorts but since I purchased these faux leather shorts from New Look I have been wearing them at every chance I get! The length is perfect on me (i'm short and have short legs!), they are somewhere between the length of hotpants and regular shorts. Its really easy to match them with many of my tops too. Sometimes I feel that my outfits are just too girly and sweet, these shorts are the perfect companion to toughen up a dainty blouse.

Once I reach 3000 followers I am going to have a giveaway, but I need a little bit of advice from all of you first. I have been picking up little bits and pieces for it over the past few months and i'm not sure if I should A. give everything to one person, B. split it and have multiple winners. What do you girls think? Would you prefer to enter for one big prize or if you had a chance to win one of 3/4 smaller prizes? I really want to give something back to my readers and it has been quite a while since I hosted a giveaway of my own, so i'm excited for this one!

Its no secret that I love pastel shades, so when I first had a peek at SS12 collections (hello, Chanel!) I was thrilled that pastel colors are going to be big this spring.
Seeing all of the pretty soft pastel shades pop up in many stores already has me too excited and I just had to share! All of the dreamy, sugary, soft shades - I love it.

OOTD: Hot pink ruffles

♥ Dress: New Look *** Blazer: New Look ♥

Not the most exciting outfit in the world but I really wanted to post an OOTD today. I took these pictures at my new house but I really hate having to crop them at my legs because of the awful carpet! I might try do a few more OOTD's at my old house later this week before we return the keys.

This dress was on sale in New Look a while back, originally 44.99 marked down to €14 so I couldn't pass it up! Theres a small black mark on the side which the ruffles hide and is not noticeable once the dress is on. Its not really the kind of dress I would have paid full price for, but for a measly €14 I do think it was worth it! I added a blazer I also got in New Look a few months back. I absolutely adore the shape of this blazer..although i'm not a huge fan of the massive padded shoulders, I keep forgetting to take 'em out! No shoe pictures today but I just wore basic black heels.

All of the pastel shades that are popping up in stores (River Island and Topshop mainly) are making me SO excited for SS12! A nice mint blazer and a little bit of sunshine are on my wishlist for Spring!

2011 recap

2011 in outfits:

Not all of 2011, as the ones pictured above are only from mid/late March 2011. It bothered me that the background colour in the older posts was pink, so I left them out! You can still go back and look at them through the "archive" tags on the sidebar.

I didn't get to blog as much as I would have liked to during the second half of 2011, but I am proud of everything I did post. You can see the contrast between the outfits I wore in early summer (florals, prints, colors) and winter (neutral shades) Whilst I do love my nude and blush pinks, I am going to try and inject a little more color into my outfits this year. I wore pants the grand total of... one time in 2011, and to be honest it will probably be a similar number for 2012! I just love skirts and dresses far too much.

I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has followed, commented and supported my blog in the last year. I appreciate it very much and I look forward to blogging (and reading all of your blogs too!) during 2012. Happy new year!

OOTD: Just peachy

I know this outfit (and most of my winter ones) looks very summery but to be honest I am "over" Winter and already looking forward to summer. Plus its easy to wear these kind of outfits on days like today when most of it was spend inside heated buildings!
The necklace from todays post was purchased from ASOS months ago, but I forget if its actually ASOS brand or River Island. Eitherways, I love it! I forgot all about it until I was packing up the rest of my things last week and found it inside a little box.
I finally moved house last week. I still have access to my old one for another week, so I will probably use it for my OOTD's for now as my new bedroom has not been painted and has a not-so-pretty brown wool carpet. Aside from brown not being my favourite color or blending in with my color scheme, i'm really not a big fan of carpet. I am bringing my white floor from my old bedroom but only the very middle of it is re-useable (sadly!) Hopefully it won't take me too long to save up to purchase more of it!

What did you girls think of the sales this year? I was a bit disappointed with them, but also glad because I couldn't afford to buy much. I wasn't too impressed when I ventured into New Look and spotted a blouse I purchased for €35 last month marked down to €4....eep!

Not too fond of how mismatched the green/red theme is with all of the softer colors but I wanted to make the wishlist look a bit "Christmas-y".
I fell in love with the playsuit after spotting it in Miss Selfridge recently. The Juicy Couture perfume is my "signature" scent (well, along with Armani Code), my bottle is currently empty so I am hoping to get a new bottle sometime soon. The tweezerman tweezers is something I already own however mine has been dropped over a dozen times and used plenty so its time to get a new one! Everything else is just pretty things that have caught my eye recently.

The title of this post was inspired by the Nina l'Elixir by Nina Ricci commercial which I am currently obsessed with. Its so dreamy and stars the beautiful Florrie Arnold (who is also singing the cover of the Sunday Girl) The bedroom reminds me of my own, although a lot bigger, fancier and a much better view!
I bought this dress in Awear during the summer and hadn't worn it as I was planning to return it eventually, but decided to wear it today instead as i'm sure six months is a little too late to return things! Everything else was also purchased during or at the end of summer. I haven't been doing too much shopping recently which i'm proud of but I am looking forward to the January sales! I had my eye on these River Island booties and was hoping they would end up in the sale (I really can't justify spending £100 on shoes just before Xmas) but it seems like they've sold out everywhere already...darn!

OOTD: Show me the way you move

Picked up this dress from River Island a few months ago, I am currently wearing it every chance I get! I love the soft chiffon material and although I try to stay away from the "blingy" part of River Island, I actually like the little diamantes all over this dress! Its quite short on me (and i'm only 5'3!) so I had to wear some short-shorts underneath. Teamed it with a blazer from New Look which I didn't include pictures of but you can see it here. I had planned to wear black heels but the outfit was a little too black for my taste, I think the nude pump completes it nicely! The braid in my hair is a fake hair headband from Primark, which I think only cost about €3. I like the little bit of volume it gives my usually-flat hair!

New undergarments are a girls best friend

I know it has been said that diamonds are a girls best friend but for now, when my budget doesn't stretch quite that far, I will settle for pretty new lingerie! I fell in love with this lingerie set when I first seen it. The soft pastel colors, polka dots, bows, lace... not to mention the pretty ruffles on everything, its just very "me". I think I always feel better when i'm wearing nice underwear (versus the leftovers on "laundry day") Even though I know other people can't see it through my clothes, it makes me feel better and more confident in whatever outfit I am wearing! (I also got a matching garter belt that I didn't include in the main photograph)

I just wanted to mention that I have put a lot of things (131 to be exact!) up on ebay a few days ago, should anyone want to bid! I need to get rid of a lot of things before I move so it made sense to put them all up at the same time...the lady who works at the local post office may not be too impressed when I arrive with 100+ parcels though!
